Chennai goes for more and more “Green Buildings”

More and more builders in Chennai are going for Energy-Efficient, Eco-Friendly structures even though they cost more. Opting for those Green buildings is a reflection of growth of the growing concern for environment and energy, and the awareness that huge consumption also leads to depletion of resources.
A green Building consumes 40% less energy and 20% less water than a non-green building.

Energy Efficiency : A green Building uses a glass skylight to make the maximum use of the natural sunlight. Only power-saving CFL lamps are used.

Bricks: Traditional clay bricks are replaced with the fly-ash bricks made out of residue from coal-powered thermal power plants.

Wood: Teak wood has been replaced by Gypsum and other replenishable material. Fibre-panelling made from agricultural waste is also being used.

Glass: Double glazed glass, widely used on windows and roofs, has an air pocket between two layers which remains static. So, transfer of heat due to conduction and convection is reduced.

Smart taps: They give you the feeling of a jet of water hitting you even by using less than the normal amount of water.
