Water table level in Chennai raised by Rainwater Harvesting

As a result of the Rain Water Harvesting scheme implemented in Chennai from 2003 and the successful monsoons year after year has increased the water table level in Chennai on an average by 6-8 metres. Even though the Rain Water Harvesting scheme (RWH) have not been implemented fully in the city, the water table has raised to a significant level. The once dried temple tanks and reservoirs are now filled with water. Surely the people must have realized the importance of RWH by this time.

I am sure that if people continue to harvest the rain water and if the government takes necessary steps to save the rain water, then the city can tackle the situation when there is a failure in monsoon. Save water for a green environment!
