Even trees can turn as a "SOURCE OF CO2"

In a recent report at the UN, the world’s top forestry scientists has revealed that the forests that absorbs nearly a quarter of the carbon pollution can turn into a source of carbon-dioxide if the Earth’s surface warms up by another 2 degrees celcius. Though the trees are thought of as the speed breakers of the global warming, the damages induced by the climatic changes could cause the forests to release huge amounts of carbon which can further accelerate the global warming. Its already been predicted that the global temperature would go up by 1.1 to 6.4 degree celcius before 2100, depending on the efforts and steps taken to curb the greenhouse gases. So, its high time that we take some regulatory actions to control the climatic changes to save our beautiful Earth.

Facts about Rain Forests

More than half of the animals and plants on Earth are found in rainforests. In fact, scientists believe that deep within the jungles and canopies exist many plants and animals which have not yet been discovered by humans.

The rainforests are also called the Pharmacy of the Earth because many of the plants which grow here have medicinal properties.

Over half the rainforests of Earth have already been destroyed by humans.

Experts say that every year around 50,000 species of plants and animals from rainforests are becoming extinct.

The cacao tree, from which the cocoa beans for making chocolate grow, is found in the rain forests.

The rubber used for making tyres comes from the rainforests.

The rafflesia plant, which is the largest flower in the world, smells of a rotting meat to attract flies for pollination.

Forests

A third of the world's land surface consists of forest-ares of land covered by dense tree cover. Each forest is an ecosystem- a group of animals and plants interacting with the physical environment and one another. More plants and animals live in forest than in any other environment. Forests differ according to the climate-boreal, temperate, or tropical. They help maintain the Earth's natural balance; trees absorb and release gases which regulate the climate.
