Mysteries of the deep

A new study has revealed that sediments deposited in the ocean by major arctic rivers may hold the clues to understand how the Earth's climate will change in the next few decades. The Arctic sediments contains the records of changes on land due to global warming and melting of upland glaciers. Large amounts of carbon are stored in the Arctic permafrost. It will transport much of the organic carbons to the oceans. The Arctic sediments are believed to act as the past climate proxies which can be used further to understand the climatic changes in the future..

Even trees can turn as a "SOURCE OF CO2"

In a recent report at the UN, the world’s top forestry scientists has revealed that the forests that absorbs nearly a quarter of the carbon pollution can turn into a source of carbon-dioxide if the Earth’s surface warms up by another 2 degrees celcius. Though the trees are thought of as the speed breakers of the global warming, the damages induced by the climatic changes could cause the forests to release huge amounts of carbon which can further accelerate the global warming. Its already been predicted that the global temperature would go up by 1.1 to 6.4 degree celcius before 2100, depending on the efforts and steps taken to curb the greenhouse gases. So, its high time that we take some regulatory actions to control the climatic changes to save our beautiful Earth.

Can Algae save the earth again?

Millions of years ago, the microscopic green algae plants cleaned up the Earth's atmosphere. Some of those algae sank into seas and oceans and became as oil reserves. Now, the scientists are on the move to reduce the green house gases in the atmosphere by using those algae. They are now doing the research to turn algae into vegetable oil, which can be made into biodiesel with further experiments. Many U.S and Japanese oil companies are now working on algae and biodiesel fuel. These biodiesel fuel can be used as jet fuels, other fuels and plastic products.
